Lijiang is Naxi country: the old town has no wall, and meltwater from Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is split into three channels that run along every street — follow the water and you will not get lost. Shuhe is half an hour north, Baisha's frescoes a little further. The one thing you must book is the glacier cableway, which is capped daily.

Booking & tickets

🏔️ Jade Dragon Snow Mountain & the glacier cableway

The mountain charges in stages — park fee, cableway and shuttle bus — and the glacier cableway runs on capped, time-slotted reservations. It is the one ticket on the mountain you must secure in advance.

What you need to know

  • The glacier cableway releases limited tickets by time slot and often sells out fast in high season — book days ahead
  • Park fee, cableway and shuttle are billed separately; after booking online, exchange the code and your document for a boarding pass
  • The upper station sits around 4,500 m and altitude affects people differently — do not run or climb once you are on the 4,506 m platform
  • Oxygen and down jackets are cheaper to rent or buy in town; the summit is windy, so windproof layers matter even in sunshine

How to book

  • Official Jade Dragon Snow Mountain channel (via the Lijiang official platform) Passport accepted

Pick a date and cableway slot → reserve and pay with real-name passport → exchange code and document on site

ℹ️ Lijiang booking rules in general

The old-town lanes themselves need no ticket; what needs planning is the mountain cableway, the old-town maintenance fee, and accommodation and transport in peak season.

What you need to know

  • The old-town maintenance fee is charged by regulation and receipts are checked — keep yours to avoid paying twice
  • Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is capped by date and slot, so book the cableway well ahead in peak season
  • At about 2,400 m, altitude symptoms usually appear on the day you go up: drink water, avoid alcohol, and do not ride the cableway on day one
  • Stone lanes are hard on wheeled luggage — ask your guesthouse to arrange an arrival pickup if you have much baggage
