Free admission does not mean walk-in entry: everyone (children included) needs a timed real-name reservation, tickets are released daily at 22:00, weekend and holiday slots go fast, and there is no on-site ticket office as a fallback.

What you need to know

  • Free admission; open Tuesday-Sunday 9:00-17:00, last entry 16:00, closed Mondays (except statutory public holidays)
  • Everyone (children included) must book a timed real-name reservation, official channels only; a reservation is valid for a single visit only — no re-entry
  • Tickets are released daily at 22:00; one account is limited to 1 order within any 14-day period and 5 people max per order, and children under 6 cannot be booked alone
  • No-shows (neither visiting nor cancelling) on 2 consecutive days or 3 times in total bar you from reserving tickets and activities for 90 days
  • Enter via the West Gate individual-visitor lane: self-service verification of your reservation document plus security check; on-site registration at the group-ticket booth is only for concession groups (visitors with disabilities, seniors aged 65+, etc.) and does not apply to regular walk-in visitors
  • Foreign visitors: reserve online under your real name with a valid document such as a passport; if the online system blocks you, call 020-38046877 (the reservation hotline published on the official website) to book with an agent

How to book

  • WeChat mini program 「广东省博物馆」 (Guangdong Museum — the ticket-reservation mini program linked in the official website footer) Passport accepted

Register with your real name → choose a date and time slot → attach an ID document for each visitor; tickets are released daily at 22:00

  • Official website gdmuseum.org.cn, 「门票预约」 (Ticket Reservation) section Passport accepted

The website publishes the reservation rules, ticket-release times and closure notices; actual booking goes mainly through the mini program

A commercial, ticketed observation tower (600 m) with no reservation lottery: buy online through official channels or on site, then ride up with your ticket. Official = the website cantontower.com and its PC ticketing portal mallpc.cantontower.com.

What you need to know

  • cantontower.com is the only official website; its PC ticketing portal mallpc.cantontower.com handles ticket booking, dining reservations, exchange-voucher reservations and online customer service, with an English interface toggle
  • Tickets are sold as combinations of observation height and rides, and prices vary by combination; evening viewing slots on holidays and weekends are the most sought-after — buy online in advance
  • Official service hotline 4006051222 — call if payment with a foreign card or the online flow gets stuck
  • In peak periods (Golden Week, Canton Fair sessions) on-site queues get long; buying online lets you skip the ticket window

How to book

  • 广州塔官网 PC 购票端 — Canton Tower official-website PC ticketing portal mallpc.cantontower.com Passport accepted

Book tickets → choose ticket type and time slot → pay → redeem the e-ticket/exchange voucher on arrival; the page has an ENGLISH interface

ℹ️ Guangzhou general booking rules

Guangzhou's booking barriers split in two: free venues require real-name ticket snatching, commercial attractions sell tickets directly; the real timing variable is the Canton Fair — during its spring and autumn sessions, transport and hotels tighten up across the city.

What you need to know

  • Free venues (Guangdong Museum types) require real-name reservations for everyone, with no on-site fallback; commercial attractions (Canton Tower, Pearl River cruises, etc.) just need a ticket — no reservation step
  • Museums closing on Mondays is the norm; the Guangdong Museum opens Tuesday-Sunday — mind the difference when comparing with the closing days of free museums in Beijing and Shanghai
  • The Canton Fair runs every spring and autumn at the Pazhou complex: the 140th session is set for October 2026; the official calendar lists import-exhibition Phase 2 on Oct 23-27 and Phase 3 on Oct 31-Nov 4, with changeover days between phases
  • During fair sessions, hotels, taxis and Metro Line 8 around Pazhou and Zhujiang New Town are strained as overseas buyers converge; ordinary travelers should avoid session dates where possible, or book rooms early and steer clear of the Pazhou-Kecun area at peak times
  • General rule for foreign visitors: official channels generally accept passports for real-name booking; when something is Chinese-ID-only or WeChat Pay fails, switch to the official PC-side English interface or call the attraction's official hotline
